Making Music North East currently comprises over ninety member groups.
Around half of these are choirs, ranging in size from those with almost one hundred and fifty singers to smaller groups with twenty or so. Another group are the promoting societies, often called music clubs, who engage professional artists to entertain their audiences - string quartets, pianists, small instrumental ensembles, vocalists - the list could go on. We have many amateur orchestras - amateur in the sense that they do not get paid for playing, although many of these groups have a very high standard of performance. Making up the total membership are brass and silver bands, drumming groups, concert bands, steel pan bands, barbershop harmony groups, recorder, clarinet, and Northumbrian pipe groups, a folk band, opera groups, and youth choirs and orchestras.
Details of all the member groups and their events can be found on this website through the navigation headings at the top of the page.
