My background is scientific. I am by training a clinical biochemist with interests in metabolic disorders of children. I have published about two hundred scientific papers and was Editor in Chief of Clinical Science. I have taught science and medical students at undergraduate and postgraduate level and I have substantial administrative experience. My musical interests are centred on singing. I sing or have sung with a number groups based in the North East of England including Cappella Novocastriensis, Antiphon, Ryton Choral Society, Northern Praeclassica, and Exultemus. In addition I have participated in a number of smaller groups on, perhaps, a less formal basis. I am currently chair of Cappella Novocastriensis, an office I have held for some\twelve years but which I am about to relinquish. During this period I have gained an understanding of some of the 'nuts and bolts' issues which are involved in the running of a successful choir. I have also had substantial experience of fund raising - specifically raising funding from national and local sources for the purchase of Cappella's chamber organ. In addition, during this period I have been involved in poster and programme design, production and distribution, as well as developing Cappella's website and introducing online ticketing. I joined the local committee of Making Music North East in late 2007 and now have responsibility for the editing, design and distribution of the newsletter. Given the proverbial shortage of tenors in choral groups, it has occurred to me that I could combine my interests in human genetics and singing by founding a tenor farm, devoted to the production of an inexhaustible supply of top-notch tenors. I am still searching for a suitable stud tenor. |
