Nat Smith has played the bassoon for over fifty years. He currently plays regularly for the Teesside Symphony Orchestra and also with a wind quintet. Having retired from business he now spends much of his time, when not walking through countryside or watching sport (primarily football, rugby and cricket), on charity boards. He is currently chair of Teesside Music Society which promotes chamber concerts and chair of Teesside Symphony Orchestra. He is keen to encourage young children (including his grandchildren) to take up serious music and also to enable them to attend more concerts. He is sad to note that though our colleges are producing large numbers of brilliant young musicians, at the same time the audiences for classical concerts are visibly ageing. |
