Medieval Workshops Weekend with Vivien Ellis
Saturday 3 March and Sunday 4 March, 10.30am-4.30pm
Fee: £22/£20 per day or £40/£35 for the weekend
We are delighted to welcome Vivien Ellis back to the north east to lead two days of workshops on medieval and renaissance singing. The two days are different but complimentary, and singers may like to book for either day, or for both.
Sunday 4 March
Feather on the Breath of God
This workshop will focus on the Hymns and Antiphons of the remarkable visionary, spiritual teacher and composer Hildegard of Bingen. These chants are rich in mystical images, with elaborate melodies, ornamented inflections, and wide ranges. This workshop will be more demanding, and suitable for the more experienced singer.
On both days Vivien will use written music, but also teach the songs by ear.
Vivien Ellis is well known for her performances and recordings of early music. She sings with medieval-contemporary ensemble Sinfonye, early music group The Dufay Collective and Alva, a folk-medieval duo with fiddle player Giles Lewin. Vivien is an experienced teacher and has taught in vocal workshops all over the world.
You can find out information about Vivien Ellis, listen to song clips, and view photos of workshops on her website at www.alva.uk.com You can also listen to a podcast at: www.thamesvalleypod.tv/displaypodcast.php/id=186
